Armenian Rescuer Day (04/09)

In 2008, by decision of the government of the Republic of Armenia, September 4 was declared a professional holiday in the country — Rescuer Day to celebrate the importance of the work of people in this profession and to honor the memory of those who died in the line of duty.

Armenian rescuers have extensive experience in eliminating the consequences of emergency situations. In 1988, they, along with thousands of other volunteers from all over the Soviet Union, saved the lives of many residents of northern Armenia affected by the earthquake.

One of the main lessons of the Spitak earthquake was the creation of rescue services in Armenia and other republics of the former USSR.

Armenian rescuers played a huge role during the brutal war in the early 1990s. Thanks to the heroic actions of many of them, hundreds of people were saved, and also thanks to the efforts of rescuers, the country's territory was cleared of minefields.

Currently, the Rescue Service of Armenia is part of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic, which was formed in 2008 by decree of the country's president.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia is a republican executive body that develops, implements and coordinates the policies of the Government of the Republic of Armenia in the areas of civil defense and protection of the population in emergency situations within its competence by laws and other legal acts.

The main tasks of the department — are to develop a policy for forecasting emergency situations and prepare for them, coordinate the actions of various structures directly during emergency situations and issues for the prompt elimination of their consequences.

Today, in honor of the holiday, all rescue service employees receive congratulations from management and colleagues; ceremonial and festive events are held in the units, at which awards and memorable gifts are presented to particularly distinguished rescuers.
