Celebration in honor of the discovery of the relics of martyrs, like in Eugenia (07/03)

On this day, the Orthodox Church celebrates the discovery of the relics of the holy martyrs in Constantinople, near the Eugene Gate.

Miracles of healing began to occur at this place in the 5th century, and subsequently it was discovered that the relics of many Christian martyrs were secretly buried there.

Among those buried were the relics of St. Andronikos, one of the 70 apostles, Bishop of Pannonia, and his wife and companion Junia.

The Apostle Paul speaks about these saints in the Epistle to the Romans: «Greet Andronikos and Junia, my relatives and prisoners with me, who became famous among the Apostles and who before me still believed in Christ» (Rome). 16, 7).

The relics of the saints were honorably transferred to the church, and in the 12th century, the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos I Komnenos (1120—1185) built a temple on this site in honor of his saint.
