Adoption Day in Ukraine (30/09)

On the day of the great Orthodox holiday — of the Day of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sofia, Ukraine celebrates Adoption Day (Ukrainian). Reinforcement Day). It was originally celebrated on September 30, but due to the reform of the church calendar in Ukraine, this Christian holiday has been celebrated on September 17 since 2023, about which the president of the country signed a corresponding decree on July 28, 2023.

Faith, Hope and Love, representing the main Christian virtues, embodying the ideals of wisdom and an open heart, undoubtedly became the good patrons of this holiday.

The greeting from the President (now ex-president) of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko on the occasion of Adoption Day, which was first celebrated on September 30, 2009, stated that « is a day of respect for adoptive parents, family-type orphanage teachers, teachers, doctors, everyone involved in adoption and protection of children's rights. This is a day of joy for thousands and thousands of girls and boys who have found happiness in loving and caring families. This is a holiday of kindness and mercy for the entire Ukrainian society».

Yushchenko also expressed sincere gratitude to people with a big and sensitive heart for their love for children, daily tireless work, and patience. He thanked the families who took in disabled children, children with HIV infection and other serious illnesses.

Every year in Ukraine the number of families wishing to take in a child deprived of parental affection is increasing. Today there is no problem with the adoption of children under 5 years of age; on the contrary, there is a queue for adoption.

But there are still a lot of problems here. More difficult situation with the adoption of older children. In particular, there are many more orphans over the age of 11 than there are people willing to adopt them.
