Mother's Day in the Kyrgyz Republic (15/05)

On the third Sunday of May, starting in 2012, Mother's Day is celebrated in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Since 2005, the Russian Unification Union of Compatriots in Kyrgyzstan (ROSS) has repeatedly come up with the initiative to establish this holiday and addressed the country’s leadership. And so, on March 7, 2012, at a festive evening dedicated to International Women’s Day, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev, in a congratulatory speech, promised to establish such a day in the country. All Mothers' Day was originally supposed to be celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

But Mother's Day should be a special, unobscured day. Therefore, given that May in Kyrgyzstan is filled with bright public holidays (May 1, — Labor Day, May 5, — Constitution Day, May 9, — Victory Day), Rossovites asked the country’s leadership to postpone the celebration of Mother’s Day to a later time.

The date was postponed. On April 23, 2012, President Almazbek Atambayev signed Decree « on the establishment of Mother's Day in the Kyrgyz Republic», according to which its annual celebration is set for the third Sunday in May.

As noted in the Decree: «Traditions of respect and veneration for the mother, recognition of the importance of her role in raising children, strengthening the family, and contribution to the development of society have deep roots among the people of Kyrgyzstan. Every citizen, regardless of age, feels a spiritual connection with his mother, feels her support and love. No matter how hard we try to pay tribute to maternal care, we will still be indebted to it.

The well-known statement «Paradise has been under the feet of mothers» for centuries indicates recognition of the high role of mothers in the family and society, its special significance and importance for each of us. The health of future generations, the quality of children's education, the formation of moral principles and values of society directly depend on the well-being of families, the health status of the mother and the level of her education».

The future development of the country is impossible without society and the state recognizing the high status of women and improving her real situation. Unfortunately, the situation in Kyrgyzstan in recent years has not made it possible to pay serious attention to the issues of ensuring safe, prosperous motherhood and providing support to the family. But attention to these issues should be among the priority areas of state policy.

Therefore, today the country is taking measures to take comprehensive measures in the areas of health, education, social protection, culture and economic empowerment of women. Equally important is the respect for motherhood on the part of the entire society, first of all, the eradication of all forms of violence, unlocking the potential of women as an important development resource for the entire country.

Considering that 2012 was declared the Year of Family, Peace, Harmony and Mutual Forgiveness in the country, it was in this year that mothers-heroines, mothers of many children, soldiers' mothers, single mothers, young mothers — all mothers of Kyrgyzstan had their own day, a day on which now every year citizens of this country can especially thank and congratulate their mothers!
