Defenders of the Teaching Day (Baldan Lhamo) (01/02)

«Baldan Lhamo» — is one of the main defenders of faith and teaching in the Gelugpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. She is the only goddess among the 10 main angry deities — defenders of Buddhism — is the ruler of demons and the eradicator of poisons.

The Khural in honor of the protector Baldan Lhamo is held on the eve of the Buddhist New Year. It is believed that on this day she descends to earth and walks around her clients, giving them her blessing.

Prayer services dedicated to Baldan Lhamo are also Uposatha days and, like other Uposatha days, are held every month.

This day is most favorable for performing practices dedicated to Baldan Lhamo. The basis of any practice is the pronunciation of mantras.

Any mantra — is a combination of sounds that generate vibrations of a certain system. By pronouncing a mantra, a person « tunes himself to the appropriate wave, acquiring the qualities that he needs, or receiving protection. Each mantra has its own meaning.

Mantra Baldan Lhamo: Joe Rakmo, Joe Rakmo Joe Rakmo Tun Jo Kala Ra Chenmo Rakmo Aja Daja Tun Jo Rulu Rulu Hum Jo Hum.

The cult of Baldan Lhamo is historically very popular at all levels of practice in Buddhism: khural (services) dedicated to the goddess are held both in datsans and at home altars. A guardian of the teaching, Baldan Lhamo is often chosen as the patron saint of monasteries. Due to this popularity, Baldan Lhamo has many images and epithets, the essence of which, however, always comes down to protecting both philosophical views and worldly well-being.
