Day of the Land and Assault Troops of Ukraine (21/11)

November 21 is their professional holiday — Day of the Land and Assault Troops of the Armed Forces ( Ukrainian. Day of the Land-Sturmovich Vijsk Zbroyniy Silas ) — notes the Ukrainian "winged infantry". It is established by Decree of the President of the country № 380/2017 of November 21, 2017.

Until 2017, this holiday was celebrated on August 2 and was called the Day of Highly Mobile Airborne Troops of Ukraine ( Day of Visokomo-Dayant Vijsk ), established by Decree of the President of Ukraine № 457/2012 in 2012. Earlier, since 1999, it was celebrated as the Day of Airborne Forces, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine № 937/99. Highly mobile landing troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were created after the collapse of the USSR on the basis of units and formations of airborne troops of the Soviet Armed Forces.

The state officially recognized and established the holiday of paratroopers, which is celebrated by everyone who has served in the Airborne Forces since the world's first parachute landing near Voronezh on August 2, 1930. This date is considered the birthday of the Airborne Forces.

But in 2017, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry canceled the holiday on August 2 — the date sacred to each paratrooper from the countries of the former USSR. Together with her, the "visiting card" of the elite kind of troops — blue berets also passed. And the Airborne Forces themselves changed their name to the Land and Assault Troops ( DSHV ).
