World Compliment Day (01/03)

There is no exact information about who and when established such an interesting holiday as World Compliment Day. According to one version, it began to be celebrated in 2001 in the Netherlands. There is also no consensus on the exact date of its holding – some propose to celebrate this holiday on March 1, while others – on March 21.

The main thing that is known is the idea of establishing a holiday –, the spontaneous desire of ordinary people to make one of the days of the year brighter, warmer, kindly memorable and bringing together. Therefore, it is quite obvious that sooner or later this holiday will become popular and gain worldwide popularity, as has happened more than once with holidays that spontaneously arose on social networks, blogs, forums, or simply on someone’s websites.

Such hopes are not in vain, because the compliment itself is – « pleasant thing». The word is of French origin and literally means a special form of praise, recognition, admiration, approval and respect. People have different attitudes towards compliment. Some argue that there is often flattery and a lack of sincerity. These people also point out that a day specially set aside for compliment only strengthens this not very unpleasant side of the phenomenon. In their own way, they are right about something.

However, everyday bustle and worries often lead us to the fact that we simply do not notice or forget to say kind, warm words to the person next to us. The holiday does not oblige anyone to do what is unpleasant for them and say what they do not consider necessary, especially to flatter and lie. But how pleasant it will be to remember with all your worries when you suddenly hear about the holiday that you have forgotten, and now you can say nice words to the one who deserves it.

The power of words is great: «Word can kill and word can heal». This holiday does not oblige you to anything: neither for gifts, nor for special preparation, nor for setting the festive table. It just reminds us once again of the great power of words spoken sincerely and from the bottom of our hearts! And the human soul is structured in such a way that we most often know how to distinguish flattery from sincere words.

It is also important to remember that you need to be able to do compliments correctly and be able to take them correctly. And, of course, you need to give compliments when your soul requires it. Let this happen not only on March 1 – on Compliment Day!

Let us remind you that the world also celebrates other «pleasant» holidays –, for example, the Day of Pleasant Surprises and the Day of Spontaneous Exercise of Kindness.
