Labor Day in Kazakhstan (25/09)

On the last Sunday of September, Kazakhstan celebrates Labor Day, established by Decree of the President of the Republic in November 2013, in order to revive the traditions of respect for blue-collar professions and awareness of the importance of work from an early age.

It is no secret that the traditions of celebrating May Day became a thing of the past along with the collapse of the USSR, when the unity and merits of the working population were glorified. But over the years, the realization began to return that in order to revive the economy, for the prosperity of the people, it was necessary to restore the respect for work lost among several generations of young people, to revive the traditions of labor culture, especially among the younger generation.

In Kazakhstan, one of the steps towards this revival was the establishment of Labor Day. At the same time, the «Veteran of Labor» medal was established, which is awarded to production leaders who have achieved high results in their work activities, employees with over 40 years of experience who have worked in the same industry for at least 10 years. This medal is awarded to workers from different branches of production.

The celebration of Labor Day in Kazakhstan takes place at many enterprises and in many labor collectives in the country. Festive concerts, rallies, sports competitions, presentation of – awards are only part of how this holiday is celebrated in the Republic. Thematic competitions are also held for the title of best labor mentor, best young worker and others. The winner in each category is awarded valuable prizes.

The main goal pursued by the state and trade unions when organizing festive and planned events dedicated to Labor Day – is to increase the status and authority of blue-collar professions, revive the traditions of working dynasties in families, stimulate labor productivity, attract the attention of young people to it, and unite labor collectives.

In addition to government bodies and trade unions, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan also takes part in organizing the holiday.

Celebrating Labor Day – is another good revived tradition.
