World Healthy Digestion Day (29/05)

May 29 is World Digestive Health Day, established on the day the Charter of the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) was adopted in 1958.

By initiating the annual observance of this Day, gastroenterologists around the world tried to draw public attention to the problems of digestive disorders in humans, the increase in the number of these problems, as well as the increase in the number of people with similar problems. Covering these issues, as well as finding effective methods for the prevention and treatment of disorders and diseases of the digestive system — is the main task of the World Organization of Gastroenterologists.

Every year a healthy lifestyle attracts the attention of more and more new people who try to follow it.

Digestive problems, unfortunately, have become an indispensable life partner for many modern people. Statistics indicate 50-60% of the population as people suffering from dysfunction and diseases of the digestive system. In large cities this figure sometimes increases to 90%! This is due to various factors, among which poor nutrition, food quality, bad habits, and the stressful state experienced by many people almost constantly play a primary role.

Every year, World Healthy Digestion Day is dedicated to a specific topic chosen by the World Organization of Gastroenterology.

Public and private healthcare institutions take part in organizing and conducting events dedicated to general issues of healthy digestion. The main goal of the activities – is the prevention of work disorders and diseases of the digestive system through introductory visual aids, training seminars, as well as consulting with specialists and diagnostics.

The consequences of digestive disorders for humans are obesity, metabolic disorders, various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract: heartburn, gastritis gastroesophageal reflux disease, etc.

The main way to protect yourself from these diseases is prevention methods recommended by gastroenterologists and nutritionists. Among them, the following come first: giving up bad habits and a sedentary lifestyle, physical activity, fighting stressful conditions, and, of course, diet and diet.

The issue of human nutrition is considered separately by medical specialists and is given special attention. Gastroenterologists and nutritionists recommend making the nutritional process systematic, that is, encouraging you to eat at approximately the same time (regularly). At the same time, it is recommended to avoid overeating and give preference to less food taken with more meals. That is, adhere to the principle of « less, but more often».

It is recommended to limit the intake of fatty, fried, smoked, spicy, salty and pickled dishes in your diet. Avoid frequent consumption of alcohol and carbonated drinks. Among other things, you should not pamper yourself too often with sweets and baked goods. Preference should be given to steamed dishes, boiled food, white fish, fresh fruits, vegetables, not forgetting about grain products. You should not torment yourself « with diets that exclude many foods from your diet. This often disrupts the balance of nutrition and leads to negative consequences. Following a diet is necessary only as prescribed by a doctor.

In any case, a person’s diet should be regular, varied, complete and balanced. Such nutrition will protect a person from many diseases and suffering, and an active lifestyle, moderate physical activity and giving up bad habits will help make life fulfilling and bright!
