International Clean Air Day for Blue Skies (07/09)

One of the memorable dates of the United Nations, called – International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, has been set for September 7. In 2020, it was celebrated for the first time.

It is no secret that the problem of environmental pollution has long been among the global problems of our time. Human activity and progress, unfortunately, have always had a downside, expressed in a violation of the ecological balance. In addition to the depletion of natural resources, human activities were accompanied by pollution of various areas of the environment: water, air, soil. Pollution is ultimately considered by many modern environmental scientists to be one of the factors that has a serious impact on climate change on the planet.

The memorable date of September 7, established by Resolution (A/RES/74/212) of the UN General Assembly of December 19, 2019, is intended to draw the attention of all countries of the world to the problem of air pollution. Medical scientists confirm that up to a third of the causes of human death from stroke, chronic respiratory diseases, lung cancer and even cardiovascular diseases are caused by a polluted state of the atmosphere.

Emissions of solid particles and gases into the atmosphere during human activity result not only in global movements in the climate sphere, but also directly have a negative impact on human health. According to the UN, 99% of the world's territory is exposed to air pollution, which is estimated to cause the premature death of 6.5 million people a year.

The main call of the UN is aimed at attracting the attention of all countries of the world to this problem, to take care of the issue of reducing harmful emissions of enterprises and transport into the atmosphere in order to improve the air on the planet and improve the health of humanity itself.

Only an integrated approach and the combined efforts of governments of all countries can produce effective results in the fight for the improvement of the Earth's atmosphere.

Air – is one of those sources of life, without which this life fades away instantly, and the deterioration of the air condition also rapidly negatively affects health. Economists do not stand aside either, calculating the inevitable increase in the upcoming costs of healthcare and treatment for people whose health will be undermined due to the poor state of the atmosphere, the harmful effects of air pollution on tourism, etc.

The call for states and large businesses to invest in environmental technologies is accompanied by the development of new types of fuel, as well as technologies for reducing emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere in all areas of human activity. Meeting these challenges directly contributes to the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Programme.

After all, we all breathe the same air, and one atmosphere protects and supports us all. Air pollution — is a global problem that we must work together to combat.
