Redhead's Day (06/09)

One of the dates offered on the Internet to celebrate Redhead Day is September 6. This is due to the fact that there are still differences in views on when to celebrate it.

Thus, in the USA there is National Redhead Day, celebrated annually on November 5th. In addition, you can find information that there is World Redhead Day (May 26) and International Redhead Day, the celebration of which falls on the calendar of September 8.

The history of the holiday also has several versions. According to one of them, in the early 1980s, one California resident, Stephen Douglas, created the International Union of Red People, calling on everyone whose head is decorated with red hair to unite.

Another version refers us to the Dutch artist Rowenhorst, who, in search of a red-haired model, unwittingly gathered over a hundred beauties with fiery hair color in Asten at the same time. The meeting turned out to be so unexpected and bright, given the very modest percentage of red-haired people, that the girls decided to meet annually. Rowenhorst, who lived in Breda, helped them organize the first meeting. They were soon joined by red-haired men and children, turning meetings in the city of Breda into a festival of red-haired people. Since 2019, the festival has moved to the neighboring city of Tilburg in the same province of North Brabant and is now held there in early September – at the end of August. It is worth noting here that in the Netherlands orange (red) is the national color.

The holiday celebrated on September 6, as well as similar holidays celebrated on other dates and designed to unite red-haired people around the world, traditionally includes festivals, parties, meetings in pubs, outdoors, photo shoots and flash mobs, picnics, lectures, games for children and competitions for adults, etc. All these events are aimed at recalling their uniqueness, donated by nature.

After all, the number of red-haired people out of the total population of the planet is only 1-2%. Moreover, the red hair color associated with a particular mutation in a particular gene is believed to be recessive, meaning that the number of bright and beautiful red-haired people on the planet is gradually decreasing. History has known periods when rare hair color was attributed to otherworldly evil forces, and people who wore red hair suffered as a result of such ideas.

It is known that there are regions (countries) on the planet where the percentage of red-haired people from the total population is much higher. Such countries include, for example, Scotland, Ireland and the UK.

Redhead Day encourages all people to appreciate themselves as they were born and rejoice in the beauty that nature has endowed them with!

Let us remind you that blondes celebrate their holiday on May 31, and brunettes — on May 28.
