Day of the Establishment of the People's Republic of China (01/10)

China's main public holiday and national day in the country — anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (Chinese trad. 人慶) — is celebrated annually on October 1st.

It was on this day in 1949 that the Formation of the People's Republic of China was proclaimed at a rally in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, and on December 2 of the same year, the central people's government issued a decree declaring October 1 a national holiday. Previously, in the 50s, an indispensable part of the celebrations dedicated to him was the grandiose military parade in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

After 1959, it was decided to hold parades only on «-round» dates, but due to the outbreak of the «cultural revolution», they were canceled completely, and only in 1984, for the 35th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, troops and equipment marched in front of the stands.

The main streets of the capital and the central squares for this holiday are always decorated with huge compositions of fresh flowers. First, a platform and frames are built for them from boards, slats, pipes and wire. Then, in the center, a skillfully executed figure of green branches and flowers is installed: dragon, peacock, elephant.

The celebration of the founding day of the People's Republic of China lasts five days, this is almost a week off — one of three annual «gold weeks» held in China (along with holidays dedicated to Chun Jie — traditional Lunar New Year and May Day holidays). In the central parks of the capital on October 1, folk festivals are held according to the same scenario as on May 1, and in the evening there is sometimes a large fireworks display.
