Constitution Day of Ukraine (28/06)

Every year on June 28, Ukraine celebrates the public holiday — Constitution Day (Ukrainian). Constitution Day of Ukraine).

On this day in 1996, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the new Constitution of Ukraine —, the first Constitution of an independent Ukrainian state.

Deputies worked on the project, remaining in the session hall all night from June 27 to 28. Parliamentarians took into account the comments of the President of Ukraine, and also supported all controversial articles of the project: on state symbols of Ukraine, on the state Ukrainian language, on the right of private property in Ukraine.

The adoption of the Constitution enshrined the legal foundations of independent Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Constitution of Ukraine has the highest legal force. Laws and other legal acts are adopted on the basis of the Constitution of Ukraine and must comply with it.

The day of adoption of the Basic Law itself is a public holiday — Constitution Day of Ukraine.
