Father's Day in Lithuania (05/06)

Every year on the first Sunday of June, Father's Day is officially celebrated in Lithuania (lit. Tėvo diena). Several years ago, the Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers decided during a government meeting that Father's Day should be given the status of an official holiday.

Initially, only Mother's Day, celebrated on the first Sunday of May, was officially declared a holiday in Lithuania. And thus, by its decision, the Lithuanian government balanced the importance of women who have their own holiday and men who have this holiday.

In addition, this was done in order to emphasize the contribution of both parents to the process of raising children. No one disputes the importance of the mother's role. But it is fathers who are the support and support of the family (and not only material), without which the full upbringing of a child is impossible. And, according to the Lithuanian government, the celebration of Father's Day will help strengthen family relations and the institution of the family as a whole.

Let us remind you that International Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June, and on the first Saturday of November — World Men's Day.
