The beginning of Baha'i fasting (02/03)

On March 2, the fasting period begins, which continues for the Bahá'ís until March 20. Bahá'ís do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset for nineteen days.

This is a special time for prayer and reflection. Children under fifteen years of age, women nursing and expecting a child, traveling, sick and elderly are exempt from fasting.

Bahá'u'lláh writes about the post:

«Know that religion is like heaven: Fasting and obligatory prayer are the sun and the moon on it. We pray to God — may He be exalted and praised — mercifully help those who act according to His will and desire».

«He who does not do good deeds and does not worship God is like a tree that does not bear fruit and an action that leaves no trace. Anyone who has experienced the holy bliss of worship will refuse to exchange this deed or any praise of God for everything that is on earth. Fasting and Mandatory Prayer are two wings of human life. Blessed is the one who with their help soars into the heaven of love God, the Lord of all worlds».
