All-Ukrainian Day of Cultural Workers and Masters of Folk Art (09/11)

Initially, this holiday was established in March 2000 by Decree of the President of Ukraine № 484/2000, called the All-Ukrainian Day of Cultural Workers and Folk Art Lovers and was celebrated on March 23. Then in 2011 it was moved to the third Sunday of May, and by Presidential Decree № 717/2013 of December 30, 2013, the celebration was set for November 9.

The All-Ukrainian Day of Cultural Workers and Folk Art Lovers was established with the aim of celebrating the significant contribution of cultural workers and amateurs to the revival of Ukrainian national culture, the development of folk art, and active cultural and educational activities.

Researchers believe that the progenitor of Ukrainian culture can be considered the culture of the Indo-European ancestors of the Slavs, Slavic cultural sources, and the culture of Kievan Rus —, pre-Christian and Christian. But, above all, Ukrainian culture is distinguished by its originality. What is certain is that the cultural development of peoples occurs in the process of their continuous relationships. In this regard, it is believed that the more different influences the culture of a people accumulates, the more cultural this people is.

Ukrainian culture developed in relationships with the cultures of the West and East, in the system of the Polish-Lithuanian state and in «lon» of Tsarist Russia. After Ukraine gained independence, new priorities arose not only in politics, but also in culture. The presentation of the state in this industry and its cultural development was to be carried out by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, which was created. Now it is called the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, its tasks and responsibilities have been redefined.

In recent years, traditionally, on this holiday, the country's leadership congratulated all cultural workers on this professional holiday, and the most distinguished were presented with state awards and valuable gifts. Various events were organized throughout the country for the holiday aimed at popularizing Ukrainian culture.
