Fisherman's Day (10/07)

Since time immemorial, man has turned his gaze to the sea, river, lake in the hope of finding a rich and long-term storehouse of food in the watery expanses. This is how a special group of — fishermen gradually formed, who, first amateurishly, and over time professionally, began to supply us with tasty fish.

Therefore, it is not surprising that in the midst of summer, on the second Sunday of July, some countries of the post-Soviet space celebrate the professional holiday — Fisherman's Day. It was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 3, 1965 № 3519-VI.

Fishing, which includes catching not only marine and river fish but also other aquatic animals, has become one of the leading industries for many countries and also constitutes a major export. On an industrial scale, fishing is carried out with the aim of using it in nutrition, as well as to obtain fish oil.

Along with other countries, Russia also celebrates this professional holiday. Fisherman's Day in Russia has been officially celebrated since 1965, being one of the favorite summer holidays of both the fishermen themselves — of a special brotherhood that unites people of different ages and occupations, — and people who have never held a fishing rod.

On this day, we can congratulate everyone who has connected life with this romantic and complex profession, as well as everyone for whom fishing is a sport, a hobby, a special state of mind, a way of merging with nature.

Traditionally, many interesting and entertaining events dedicated to fishing are timed to coincide with this day. The traditional dish of the holiday – is, of course, fish soup. Classic Russian fish soup is made from three or four species of fish.

Let us remind you that World Fisheries Day is celebrated annually on June 27.
