Day of Oil, Gas and Oil Refining Industry Workers in Ukraine (11/09)

Day of Oil, Gas and Oil Refining Industry Workers (Ukrainian. «The day of workers of the naftovo, gas and nafto-transfer industry») is celebrated in Ukraine annually on the second Sunday of September, in accordance with Presidential Decree №302/93 of August 12, 1993, in support of the initiative of workers in the oil, gas, oil refining industries and oil product supply.

Industrial oil production in Ukraine began in the 18th century, and already in 1909, 2 million tons of oil were produced in the Carpathian region. The gas industry traces its origins to the commissioning of the Dashava gas field and the construction of the first Dashava — Stryi gas pipeline in 1924.

The intensive development of the oil and gas industry is associated with the discovery in the mid-20th century of significant oil and gas reserves in the Dnieper-Donetsk depression region, in the Carpathian region and in the Black Sea-Crimean gas-bearing region.

The world's first export supplies of natural gas began from the territory of Ukraine — they began to be carried out to Poland in 1945. Ukraine now owns a complex pipeline transport system. Its total length reaches 37 thousand kilometers. A number of important main pipelines of strategic importance pass through the country.

Ukraine belongs to countries with a shortage of its own natural hydrocarbon resources, and these energy resources are used to supply the country's industry and housing and communal services sector.
