Memorial Day of Evangelist Luke (18/10)

According to legend, Luke was a Syrian doctor from Antioch who accompanied the Apostle Paul. Luke retold the legends of Jesus on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, from Antioch to Caesarea.

Speaking very well about poverty, the evangelist Luke himself lived all his life without property, he was fed and clothed by communities. Around 70, he was called to the communities of the Apostle Paul in Greece to learn more about Christ from him. There he died at the age of 84.

The main feature of the Gospel of Luke is that it is written as a biography. At the same time, Luke emphasizes that Jesus comes from God, since Greek biographies of ancient husbands certainly mention descent from some god.

In the Revelation of John the Theologian (Rev. 4:6-8) it is written about four animals that are at the throne of God in heaven and constantly praise the Lord. These animals look like a lion, a bull, an eagle, and the fourth has a face like a human. In accordance with this, each of the four Evangelists received in the Christian tradition their own symbol, which is often depicted in paintings. The symbol of the evangelist Luke is Taurus.

Evangelist Luke's Day, like the other three authors of the Gospel, is celebrated in the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, as well as in some Protestant Churches.
