Tumanyan days in Armenia (04/04)

According to Armenian literary scholars, the entire history and national memory of the Armenian people is associated with the name of Hovhannes Tumanyan. Even during his lifetime he was called «Poet of all Armenians». Therefore, the significance of such events is difficult to overestimate, since they further bring together the connection of the modern generation with Armenian literature and history.

Tumanyan Days start annually on April 4. Students celebrate this day with productions of Tumanyan’s fairy tales. After this, the Tumanyanov Days continue in the classrooms and hall of the university. It is planned to hold Tumanyanov readings, professorial scientific reports, student reports and productions in different languages.

The events end on April 11 (on April 11, 1923, the poet’s ashes were interred). On this day, at the monument to Hovhannes Tumanyan, teachers and students recite the poet’s poems, his journalistic works, and pay tribute to the great poet.

In Armenia, a city, streets, schools are named after Tumanyan, and monuments have been erected to him. Since 1953, a poet's museum has been operating in Yerevan.
