Guanacaste Day in Costa Rica (25/07)

Guanacaste Day — is a historical holiday in Costa Rica, celebrated annually on July 25, in honor of the voluntary annexation of the province of Guanacaste, which previously belonged to Nicaragua, to Costa Rica in 1824.

In a local referendum held on 25 July 1825, accession was confirmed, which in turn was a reminder of Costa Rica's right to self-determination.

The province of Guanacaste is distinguished by its rich folklore, songs and dances. Therefore, on this day, all children dress up in national clothes, girls in long colorful skirts, and boys — with painted black mustaches, sandals, white trousers, white Panama hats and red scarves on their necks.

Folk songs are heard everywhere, folk dance groups take to the stages, and traditional corn dishes are sold on the streets.
