Day of the first declaration of independence of Panama (10/11)

In Panama's holiday calendar November 10 — First Shout of Independence from Spain. On November 10, 1821, the population of Los Santos, one of the two largest cities located in modern Panama, declared independence from the Spanish crown.

After 18 days, residents of the second city — Panama — also declared their independence from Spain — this holiday began to be called Independence Day. And on November 3, 1903, Panama declared its independence from Colombia — on this day, Panamanians celebrate Independence Day.

Every year, all citizens of the country take to the streets to celebrate the Day of the First Declaration of Independence. This holiday is often timed to coincide with a colorful festival — thousand residents of Panama dress up in masks and costumes made from the feathers of exotic animals and organize mass celebrations.

Fun performances in a medieval fort tell Panamanians the story of a riot. Actors portraying red devils — are Spanish conquerors. Fighters for justice defeat the invaders to the sounds of shamanic drums. Pagan dances complete the ritual. All guests of the festival take part in them.
