Soldier Day in Brazil (25/08)

Every year on August 25, the Brazilian army and the whole country celebrate Soldier's Day / Dia do Soldado - a holiday for the Brazilian army, celebrated on the birthday of the military commander of the Brazilian army, Marshal Luis Alves de Lima e Silva.

Luis Alves de Lima e Silva (August 25, 1803 - May 7, 1880) was declared the patron saint of the Brazilian army in 1961. For services in the military campaign in Paraguay in 1869 he received the title of Duke of Caxias. The Brazilian cities of Duque de Caxias and Caxias do Sul are named after him.
