Every year on November 2, Belarus celebrates the Day of Remembrance, established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 157 of March 26, 1998. The people call this day Autumn Grandfathers (Vosensky Dzyady), which the Orthodox celebrated on the third week after the Intercession. This is the day of remembrance of the ancestors.
In the folk calendar, there is a universal algorithm for calculating the dates of all folk holidays. Unfortunately, with regard to this holiday, when the Day of Remembrance was included in the list of public holidays, the folk tradition was not observed. Now this holiday is usually celebrated on one of the Saturdays from November 1 to November 11, combining almost two traditions - Orthodox and Catholic. And the State Day of Remembrance in Belarus is set for November 2.
Belarusians Vosensky Dzyady is a family, home holiday. Only in some western regions of Belarus are there cases when people themselves went to visit their ancestors at the cemetery. This is in the spring, on Radunitsa, it is customary to visit the dead in the cemetery, and today they invite their ancestors to their home to treat and thank for their help and patronage.
