Day of the lifeguard of Armenia (04/09)

In 2008, by the decision of the government of the Republic of Armenia, September 4 was declared a professional holiday in the country - the Day of the Rescuer, in order to mark the importance of the work of people in this profession and honor the memory of those who died in the line of duty.

Armenian rescuers have a hard experience in dealing with emergency situations. In 1988, they, along with thousands of other volunteers from all over the Soviet Union, saved the lives of many residents of northern Armenia who were affected by an earthquake.

One of the main lessons of the Spitak earthquake was the creation of rescue services in Armenia and other republics of the former USSR.
