Grandmother's Day (Ziua bunicii) in the Republic of Moldova was established by Government Decision No. 1014 of September 12, 2007 and is celebrated annually on the last Saturday of September.
The document also states: “Ministries and other bodies of central and local public administration, together with non-governmental organizations, ensure the organization and holding of events within the framework of the Grandmother's Day holiday.
The holiday was established on the initiative of the first lady of the country, Taisiya Voronina. The Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child also initiated the introduction of a new holiday. Grandmother's Day was established as a sign of respect and appreciation of society for the efforts made by grandmothers in educating the younger generation, ensuring the continuity of preserving traditions and national values.
