Independence Day of Nigeria (01/10)

Every year on October 1, the Federal Republic of Nigeria celebrates a national holiday - Independence Day in Nigeria.

Nigeria gained independence from Britain, whose dominance lasted for years, in 1960. At the time of its independence on October 1, 1960, Nigeria was a federation consisting of the former federal capital of Lagos and three large, largely autonomous administrative regions: North, West and East.

On October 7, 1960, Nigeria was admitted to the UN. Nigeria has been a member of OPEC since 1971.
