Day of the archivist of Belarus (06/10)

October 6 is annually celebrated in Belarus as the Day of the Archivist, established in honor of the anniversary of the founding of the first centralized state archive on the territory of the modern Republic of Belarus - the Vitebsk Central Archive of Ancient Assembly Books, which began its work in 1863.

In addition, on this day in 1994, the President of the Republic of Belarus signed the Law “On the National Archival Fund and Archives in the Republic of Belarus”, which determined the foundations for the development of archiving in the country. And since 2000, October 6 has been a professional holiday for workers in the archival industry.

Currently, there are more than 12 million documents in the archival repositories of the country. The service responsible for the preservation of the Belarusian documentary heritage is widely developed and branched out. In total, the archival sphere includes 169 subordinate organizations.
