Constitution Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan (08/12)

National holiday of Uzbekistan — Constitution Day — is celebrated in the country annually on December 8. On this day in 1992, at the 11th session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Basic Law of the country was unanimously adopted — Constitution of Uzbekistan as an independent sovereign state.

On the same day, President of the Republic Islam Karimov signed laws «On the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan», «On declaring the Day of Adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan a national holiday», «On the procedure for putting into effect the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan».

The Constitution of Uzbekistan has been examined by specialists from the United Nations, the Council for Security and Cooperation in Europe, scientists, lawyers from the USA, Great Britain, France and many other countries; it has enshrined the fundamental provisions of democracy:

— Uzbekistan — sovereign democratic republic (art. 1); — The state expresses the will of the people and serves their interests. Public authorities and officials are responsible to society and citizens art. 2); — The people are the only source of state power (art. 7); — The people of Uzbekistan are citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regardless of their nationality (art. 8); — The most important issues of public and state life are brought up for discussion by the people and put to a general vote (referendum) (Article 9).

Today, the day of adoption of the country's basic law is celebrated in Uzbekistan as a national and national holiday. City streets are decorated with flags, and the capital of the country hosts various festive events dedicated to this date: concerts of pop stars, exhibitions, educational events, sports and charity events, all kinds of shows…
