World Health Day (07/04)

World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7, the day the World Health Organization (WHO) was created in 1948. Since that historical moment, 194 countries around the world have become members of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The annual observance of Health Day has become a tradition since 1950. The Day's awareness-raising activities are carried out so that people can understand how much health means in their lives. And health organizations are called upon to decide what they need to do to improve the health of people around the world.

Every year, World Health Day is dedicated to the global challenges facing the planet's healthcare and is held under different mottos: «In the safety of your blood – saving the lives of many», «Activity – path to longevity», «Pregnancy – is a special event in life. Let's make it safe», «Protect health from climate change», «1000 cities – 1000 lives», «Urbanization and health», «Anmicrobial resistance and its global spread», «Good health adds life to years», «High blood pressure», «Small bite – source of great danger», «Food safety», «Let's beat diabetes!», «Depression: let's talk», «Health for all», «General health coverage», «Support nursing and midwifery workers!», «Build a fairer, healthier world», etc.

On World Health Day 2022, amid the ongoing pandemic, planetary environmental crisis, onslaught of diseases such as cancer, asthma and heart disease, WHO decided to draw the attention of the global community to the urgent actions needed to protect human and planetary health and strengthen the movement to create a society focused on human well-being. Day Motto – «Our planet, our health».

On April 7, 2023, World Health Day, the World Health Organization celebrates its 75th anniversary, which was an occasion to remember past public health successes that have improved people's quality of life over the past seven decades. It is also an opportunity to give impetus to action to tackle the pressing health problems of today and tomorrow. Therefore, the motto of the Day was the words: «Health for all».

WHO estimates that preventable environmental causes kill 13 million people worldwide every year. These include the – climate crisis, the biggest threat to human health, which is also a health crisis. As a result of burning fossil fuels, more than 90% of people breathe unhealthy air. As global temperatures rise, mosquito-borne diseases are spreading faster and further. Extreme weather events, land degradation and water scarcity lead to forced displacement of people and deterioration of their health. Pollutants and plastic penetrate the deepest depths of the world's oceans, the slopes of the highest mountains, as well as food production systems. The production of highly processed, unhealthy foods and drinks, which account for a third of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere worldwide, leads to widespread obesity and causes an increase in the number of cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

World Health Day represents a good opportunity for all countries around the world to make concentrated efforts to address key public health issues. And WHO experts also draw attention to the global shortage of medical personnel, which amounts to 2.5 million doctors, 9 million nurses and midwives and 6 million workers in other medical specialties. The problem is most acute in poor countries, but in developed economies, health care is too often concentrated in cities, reducing the quality of care in rural and remote areas.

On World Health Day, WHO calls for the involvement of all sectors of government to take action to address the underlying causes of inequality and increase resources invested in the development of primary health care. The Day campaign could also be an occasion for health ministers and other government officials to commit to taking action to address gaps in achieving universal health coverage in their countries, as well as to take stock of the work already done.

World Health Day – is a global campaign that aims to sensitize everyone on our planet to health and health issues, with the goal of taking joint action to protect people's health and well-being.
