Day Vasil Levsky (19/02)

On February 19, Bulgaria celebrates the Day of Vasil Levski (Bulgarian Vasil Levski, real name Vasil Ivanov Kunchev; 1837 - February 18, 1873), a fiery Bulgarian revolutionary, ideologist and organizer of the liberation struggle of the Bulgarian people against the Ottoman enslavers.

On February 18, 1873, Levski, sentenced to death by a Turkish court, was hanged in Sofia.

“I dedicated myself to the fatherland, to serve it to death and to work according to the will of the people,” writes Levski. For his complete selflessness and moral purity, he earned the nickname "Apostle of Freedom."
