World Pneumonia Day is celebrated annually on November 12th.
Pneumonia is a lung infection that most commonly affects children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Pneumonia can be caused by various types of microorganisms.
This international day appeared on the calendar at the initiative of the Global Coalition Against Childhood Pneumonia. This is the name of the association of international, governmental, non-governmental and local organizations, research and educational institutions, foundations and citizen activists. The coalition aims to bring the pneumonia issue to the attention of government leaders, health professionals and potential donors.
