The Day of the Archive of the Ministry of Energy of Russia is celebrated annually on February 16.

According to experts, the history of Russian energy begins in 1801 - at the beginning of the 19th century, 25 coal deposits were developed in Russia. In subsequent years, the government actively pursues a policy of developing and strengthening the energy industries. Already in the middle of the 19th century, official registration of mining began in the Russian Empire. In 1855, coal production in the country amounted to 9,494 thousand poods (approximately 155 million tons).

In 1880, in Moscow, the first street electric lights appeared in the most popular places of recreation and entertainment. And the next year, 100 electric lamps were lit every evening in Moscow.
