Day of the security and military service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (13/05)

The Day of Employees of the Security and Escort Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, or, as it is also called, the Day of the Escort, is celebrated in Russia annually on May 13, according to the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation dated October 23, 2002 No. 1026 “On the announcement of the date of formation of security and escort police units ".

The escorts chose the day for their holiday in memory of May 13, 1938, when the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR issued the Temporary Regulations for the Escort Service of the Workers' and Peasants' Militia. This date is considered the day of formation of the security and escort service of the country.

However, history can be counted from another date. In 1886, Alexander III issued an order to create escort teams in the Russian Empire, and 21 years later, in 1907, the first Charter of the escort service was approved.

Currently, temporary detention facilities operate in more than 2,000 departments of the internal affairs system of the Russian Federation. Tens of thousands of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carry out guard and guard service in them. Their work is divided into two important components: firstly, it is the protection of law-abiding Russians from people who are capable of transgressing the norms established by law, and secondly, ensuring the rights of citizens taken into custody.

Traditionally, on the Day of the Security and Escort Service, the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs congratulate employees, as well as reward them and express gratitude. Congratulatory telegrams are sent to all internal affairs structures operating in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation on this day.
