Every year on September 1, Kabardino-Balkaria celebrates Statehood Day, or Republic Day. This holiday was established in 1997 on the occasion of the adoption of the new constitution of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
Its date was not chosen by chance: it was on September 1, 1921, that the Kabardian Autonomous Region was formed by decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the RSFSR, later, together with the Balkarian Autonomous Okrug, it was transformed into the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Region. Its capital was the city of Nalchik.
Today, many solemn and celebratory events are timed to this day, which is a day off in the Republic.
