Cyber Monday (28/11)

Cyber Monday – is the marketing name for the Monday that comes after Black Friday (a day of huge discounts and sales) and is its continuation, but not in «live», regular stores, but on the Internet. This is an online sales time where online retailers offer discounted items that can be purchased from the comfort of your home.

And since Cyber Monday, like Black Friday, is held annually in preparation for the Christmas and New Year holidays, it is one of the busiest trading days for online stores, most of which offer their customers really huge discounts.

By the way, Cyber Monday, like Black Friday, traces its history back to the United States. The first such mass online sale was held in America in 2004, and the term «Cyber Monday» itself was proposed a year later by the Internet resource Shop.org, representing the branch of the US National Retail Federation. It is believed that this day was invented specifically for office workers. And the reason for this decision was marketing research over several years, which showed a surge in online sales on the first Monday after Thanksgiving.

The reason for this is simple – on this day, Americans returned to work after a long rest and could use the Internet to make the necessary purchases at large discounts on the eve of the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, which they did not have time to do on Black Friday. Why from a work computer? But because then personal computers and the Internet were not as accessible as they are now. Very soon, store owners, seeing such customer activity, began to lure « customers on Mondays after Thanksgiving with very lucrative offers.

Since then, Cyber Monday has gained more and more momentum and today is one of the world's largest online sales and online discount promotions. Most online retailers offer big discounts on this day (or even a week), up to 90%, and special offers to lure their « holiday» customers. Moreover, the availability and simplicity of online shopping today attracts many. Thus, Americans who did not have time to purchase « on the weekend after Thanksgiving continue to shop on the Internet. Fortunately, you can buy almost any – product there at discounts, from clothes, shoes, cosmetics and dishes to new models of equipment, electronics and toys. In addition, the number of online stores offering free delivery of goods purchased from them directly to home is growing every year.

Another factor influencing the growing popularity of Cyber Monday – is the rapid spread of mobile devices – smartphones and tablet computers, which allow people not to depend at all on their work computer and time in the office. All this allows you to make online purchases easily and with pleasure, without queuing or pushing in stores, with a wider and faster range of product searches that are physically difficult to cover on Black Friday.

By the way, Cyber Monday has become popular not only in the USA, but also in Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, England, Japan, Russia and many other countries. Although not everywhere it is «linked» to Black Friday and is held on different dates of the year.

In Russia, the first «Cyber Monday» took place on January 28, 2013 and lasted 24 hours. The organizer of this action was the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT), and it was supported by six companies: Wikimart, Enter, «White Wind», «Tenth Dimension», M.Video and «Eldorado». According to the organizers, for online retailers this Russian Cyber Monday was quite successful – the number of orders increased four times compared to a normal day, turnover amounted to more than 350 million rubles. Since then, it has been held annually, the number of participants in – online stores is growing. Although, according to bloggers who observe Cyber Mondays in Russia, on this day not all online stores behave honestly towards customers, especially with regard to the size of – discounts they are very smaller than stated.

And the scale of Russian Cyber Monday, compared to its Western counterparts, is very modest. There are several reasons for this: – Internet in Russia is not yet available everywhere even today; online stores do not undertake to deliver to some settlements of the country; not all online services offer «white» products, and therefore cannot reduce already low prices for goods, etc. Therefore, the main goal of holding this promotion in Russia – is to stimulate the development of online commerce.
