Constitution Day of the Republic of Tajikistan (06/11)

On November 6, 1994, the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan was adopted in a national referendum. In honor of this event, the country established a public holiday – Constitution Day of the Republic of Tajikistan (taj). Ruzi Constitutsiyai (Sarkonuni) Kumhurii Tojikiston), which was officially included in the list of state dates of Tajikistan in 1998. For citizens of the Republic, November 6 is a non-working holiday, which is widely celebrated throughout the state.

The main law of the country itself, after its adoption in 1994, was later supplemented and amended three times. This happened in 1999, 2003 and 2016.

As in any other state, the Constitution in Tajikistan is a fundamental document defining the foundations of the state structure, the procedure for the formation and functioning of the main state bodies of legislative, executive and judicial power, local government bodies, the procedure for election, as well as the powers of the head of state, fundamental rights, freedoms and responsibilities of citizens, the procedure for amending the Constitution and the possibility of its revision.

The Constitution of Tajikistan proclaims the country an independent, socially oriented state that recognizes human rights and freedoms as the main value –, defining citizens as the main source of sovereignty. This is confirmed by its last article, which affirms the inviolability and impossibility of changing such foundations of the state as the republican form of government, territorial integrity, legal, secular and social essence of the state.

The celebration of Constitution Day of Tajikistan is accompanied by the raising of the National Flag. At the initiative of government bodies, local executive authorities, public organizations and organizing committees of labor collectives, socio-political events are held, as well as concerts and other festive entertainment events.
