Day of the State Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan (21/04)

On April 21, employees of the State Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan celebrate their professional holiday. It was established by Decree of the President of the country №814 of May 4, 2014.

A special structure responsible for ensuring national security arose in the system of government of Kazakhstan on October 3, 1995, when the State Security Service was established by Decree of the President of the Republic. The same Decree defined the appointment, structure and powers of the new department. The service received its own symbols: the flag, insignia, and the status and importance of the tasks assigned to it were emphasized by subordination directly to the President of the country.

The State Security Service was entrusted with the following functions: protection of the President of the country and members of his family, protection of senior state officials and officials, the list of which is personally approved by the President, protection of heads of foreign states and senior officials, heads of international organizations during their stay in Kazakhstan. The Service also carried out tasks to ensure the protection of objects of state significance.

On April 21, 2014, according to the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan, certain transformations of the State Security Service – were carried out to include the Presidential Security Service and the Republican Guard. And a month later, a new Decree approved the Regulations on the State Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which again spelled out the structure, principles of management and subordination of the Service, its tasks and functions, powers, taking into account the reorganization measures carried out.

Today, the State Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan – is a full-fledged state body that has its own material and technical base, professional personnel, and their training system. The special status of military personnel and the strict system of staffing units of the Service are determined by the tasks assigned to them by the state. The high professionalism of employees and military personnel has been repeatedly confirmed in the organization and conduct of international events held in Kazakhstan – summits of the SCO, EurAsEC, OSCE, UN conferences, major sports competitions and others.

In addition to performing the main tasks of ensuring the safety of senior state officials and foreign guests, the State Security Service of Kazakhstan is also involved in resolving issues of countering terrorism and extremism, organizing and holding ceremonial events. Therefore, the department approaches the selection of candidates for service especially carefully, taking into account both physical, personal and psychological qualities. Veterans of the Service play a large role in training young military personnel.

The development and improvement of the State Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan is carried out not only based on one’s own experience, but also with the involvement of specialists from similar services of other states, experience is exchanged, and training events are organized not only in one’s own training centers, but also abroad.
