International unloading day (05/01)

Every year on December 31 people start acting weird. From morning until almost evening they cook, while eating almost nothing, and closer to midnight they sit down at the table and start eating. Lot.

Basins of salads are eaten, several options of hot, a lot of champagne and stronger drinks are drunk, some, especially persistent, get to desserts almost in the morning, the rest start the cake only on the evening of January 1st.

For many years in Russia and the post-Soviet space, the New Year is celebrated, first of all, with a plentiful feast, and only then with fun festivities. And if frosts and bad weather can interfere with the walk, then there are no barriers to the New Year's feast. Even during the years of financial crises and in times of total shortages, the tables were bursting with food.
