An unofficial professional holiday on September 15 is celebrated by employees of the sanitary and epidemiological service of the Russian Federation. Without their officially approved professional holiday, SES employees celebrate it on the Day of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service. This event took place on September 15, 1922.
Today this body is called Rospotrebnadzor or the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare. The name of the service indicates the tasks that the state sets before it. These include monitoring, supervision and control in the field of sanitary hygiene, the epidemic situation, preventive measures to prevent epidemics and viral diseases, as well as consumer protection.
In the 19th century, Russian doctors began to work on the development of sanitary hygiene and the prevention of epidemics and social diseases caused by a violation of the norms of hygiene itself. The unfavorable situation in society, characterized by a high level of morbidity and mortality, and a low level of knowledge of the majority of the population in the field of hygiene, pushed them to this activity.
