Belarusian cinema day (17/12)

On December 17, Belarus celebrates the Day of Belarusian Cinema. This professional holiday of republican cinematographers was established by a presidential decree in 1994.

The date for the holiday was not chosen by chance. It was on December 17, 1924 that the decision of the Council of People's Commissars "On film production in the BSSR" was issued. On the same day, the State Directorate for Cinematography and Photography, Belgoskino, was created under the People's Commissariat of Education. The first newsreels about the events of those years were filmed.

In 1926, Belarusian viewers saw the first domestic "action movie" - "Forest Story" by Yuri Tarich, based on the story "Swineherd" by Mikhas Charot.
