Journalist's Day in China (08/11)

Every year on November 8, since 2000, Journalist's Day has been solemnly celebrated in China. It became the third widely celebrated professional holiday in China after Nurses Day and Teacher's Day.

It must be said that this professional holiday was celebrated earlier — so, from 1933 to 1949, Chinese reporters celebrated it on September 1, in memory of the fact that on this day in 1933 a law was adopted in China to protect the rights of news workers. In subsequent years, this holiday was not celebrated in China for a long time, and only in 1999 it was remembered again, and the date was set for November 8. On this day in 1937, the Chinese Youth Journalism Organization was formed in Shanghai, which, after the creation of the People's Republic of China, accepted into its ranks all journalists from the country's central publications.

Currently, more than 700 thousand people work in the Chinese media. And today they celebrate their professional holiday. On this day, a ceremonial meeting and festive evening are held at the House of People's Assembly in Beijing. At the same time, events dedicated to Journalist's Day are organized in all provinces and autonomous regions.

Also on this day, leading journalists in China appeal from the pages of newspapers and television screens to their fellow journalists and intellectuals with an appeal to provide possible ideological and public support in the name of building a harmonious society.

It is known that journalists around the world actively advocate for the defense of human rights, for punishing lawlessness, many of them give their lives while fulfilling their civic duty.

Let us remind you that the International Day of Solidarity of Journalists is celebrated annually on September 8.
