World Peace Day (01/01)

World Day of Peace — is a holiday of the Roman Catholic Church, celebrated annually on January 1 on the Day of the Triumph of the Mother of God Mary.

On December 8, 1967, Pope Paul VI proclaimed World Peace Day. For Catholics, this holiday is called the Day of World Prayers for Peace. For several years it was celebrated on the first day of each new year.

On December 17, 1969, the UN General Assembly declared World Peace Day an official holiday, during which believers call on God to stop all wars and send peace to people on Earth.

The general slogan of World Peace Day was the words: «Sorry, and you will find peace».

Combating poverty and violence, building peace on Earth, easing tensions in international and interstate relations, human rights and women's rights, economic development — these are some of the themes of the pontiffs' annual pre-holiday messages to believers.

World Peace Day is a holiday in the Vatican; Brazil celebrates World Brotherhood Day.

Let us remind you that every year on September 21, at the initiative of the UN, the International Day of Peace is celebrated.
