On November 13, a memorable date is celebrated in the Russian Armed Forces - the Day of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Troops (RCBZ Troops), established by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 549 of May 31, 2006 "On the establishment of professional holidays and memorable days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation."
Military chemists appeared in the Russian army during the First World War. The first institution of the Red Army dealing with issues of chemical protection was the Special Chemical Department (9th Department) of the Main Artillery Directorate of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. It was formed in the summer of 1918 and dealt with the accounting and storage of military chemical property left over from the old Russian army.
November 13, 1918 is considered the official date of the formation of the troops of radiation, chemical and biological protection (RCBZ), when the first bodies and units of chemical protection in the army were formed by order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Republic No. 220.
