Azerbaijan Independence Day (18/10)

On October 18, the Republic of Azerbaijan celebrates a national holiday - the Day of the Restoration of Independence, established in honor of the adoption on this day in 1991 by the Supreme Council of the Republic of the Constitutional Act on the state independence of Azerbaijan from the USSR.

Initially, the holiday was called State Independence Day, but at the plenary session of the Azerbaijani Parliament on October 12, 2021, the deputies adopted a bill in the second reading, according to which it was proposed to celebrate October 18 in the country as Independence Restoration Day.

On August 30, 1991, at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan, a Declaration was adopted on the restoration of the state independence of the Republic.
