Celebrating the birth of Ganesha Chaturthi (31/08)

The birthday of the God of Wisdom and Abundance Ganesh Chaturthi (Vinayaka Chaturthi) with the torso of a man and the head of an elephant — obstacle remover, son of Shiva and his wife Parvati — is celebrated in the month of Bhadra (August—September).

Ganesh is one of the most revered gods of the Hindu pantheon. Any undertakings are accompanied by a prayer to Ganesha: «Om Ganeshaia namah».

The holiday of Ganesha Chaturthi symbolizes a good omen.

On this day, they worship Ganesha, bring him fruits, milk, flowers and sweets, and break coconuts in front of the image of God.

In some areas of the country (for example, in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu), new images of Ganesha are being created from raw clay by this day. After prayers, offerings and a brief farewell ceremony, old images are immersed in the water of rivers, lakes and other bodies of water.

The birth of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated throughout the country. It is celebrated especially magnificently and joyfully in the state of Maharashtra. The holiday also symbolizes the onset of a series of holidays dedicated to other Hindu deities.
