Professional holiday — Court Workers' Day (Ukrainian. Court Practitioners Day, celebrated in Ukraine annually on December 15, is established by Decree of the President of the country № 1318/2000 of December 8, 2000, taking into account the role of the courts in ensuring the protection of human and civil rights and freedoms, in establishing the principle of the rule of law and development and strengthening Ukraine as a democratic, rule-of-law state.

The system of judicial bodies in Ukraine includes:

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine, which resolves issues of compliance of laws and other legal acts with the Constitution of Ukraine, gives an official interpretation of the norms of the Constitution and laws of Ukraine.

Courts of general jurisdiction, which are formed, as a rule, on a territorial basis and consider all civil and criminal cases, as well as cases of administrative offenses.

Arbitration (arbitration) courts that consider cases regarding economic legal relations.

According to Article 124 of the Constitution of Ukraine, justice in the country is carried out exclusively by the courts. The jurisdiction of the courts extends to all legal relations in the state. The Constitution of Ukraine emphasizes the inadmissibility of creating emergency and special courts that would operate outside the boundaries of the constitutionally established court system.

The highest judicial body in the system of courts of general jurisdiction is the Supreme Court of Ukraine. The Chairman of the Supreme Court is elected to office and dismissed from it by secret ballot by the Plenum of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.

Article 127 of the Constitution of Ukraine establishes certain requirements for candidates for judges. They must have the appropriate education, proper experience in legal work, have lived in Ukraine for at least ten years and speak the state language. Judges in the administration of justice are independent and subject only to the law. The people of Ukraine are provided with the opportunity to take part in the administration of justice through the introduction of the institutions of people's assessors and jurors.
