Memorial Day of the Prophet Daniel and the three youths of Ananias, Azariah and Misail (30/12)

600 years before the birth of Christ, Jerusalem was conquered by the king of Babylon, the temple erected by Solomon was destroyed, and many of the people of Israel were taken into captivity.

Among the captives were noble youths Daniel, Ananias, Azariah and Mishael. The king of Babylon Nebuchadnezzar ordered to teach them Chaldean wisdom, to bring them up in luxury, at his court. But they, keeping the commandments of their faith, refused excesses and led a strict lifestyle, they ate only vegetables and water.

The Lord gave them wisdom, and Saint Daniel the gift of clairvoyance and the interpretation of dreams.
