Memorial Day of the Holy Martyr Polikarp, Bishop of Smirsky (08/03)

Saint Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna, was born around the year 80 and lived in the city of Smyrna in Asia Minor. Early left an orphan, Polycarp was raised, at the direction of the Angel, by the pious widow Callista.

After the death of his betrothed mother, Polycarp distributed his estate and began to lead a chaste life, serving the sick and infirm.

The holy Bishop of Smyrna Vukol fell in love with Polycarp and brought him closer to him. He ordained Polycarp as a deacon, instructing him to preach the Word of God in the temple.
