Day of unity of the peoples of Russia and Belarus (02/04)

April 2 is the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus. It was on this day in 1996 that the Presidents of Russia and Belarus, Boris Yeltsin and Alexander Lukashenko, signed the Treaty on the Formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus in Moscow.

Exactly one year later, on April 2, 1997, the Treaty "On the Union of Belarus and Russia" was signed, which gave a new impetus to the process of comprehensive integration of the two states. On May 23, 1997, the Charter of the Union of Belarus and Russia was adopted, and on December 25, 1998, the presidents of Russia and Belarus signed the Declaration "On the further unity of Russia and Belarus."

On December 8, 1999, the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State and the Action Program of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation for the implementation of the provisions of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State were signed.
